WHO IS PYWC?

The Palmyra Youth Wrestling Club was founded in 2016 to give the youth of Palmyra an opportunity to enrich their lives with the sport of wrestling. The sport is only offered through the public school system at the high school level, PYWC was formed to fill in the gap. Kids from Palmyra and surrounding communities experience wrestling in their hometown, but also have the opportunity to travel and experience much bigger state wide tournaments.

During the 2022/2023 season PYWC had 94 wrestlers competing in numerous tournaments throughout the season. Wrestlers work hard in the wrestling room 2-4 nights a week and wrestle tournaments on the weekends to prepare themselves for the state series at the end of the season. PYWC took 32 members 7 years and older to the district 7 open tournament with 24 qualifying for Regionals the following weekend. Seventeen PYWC members advanced from Regionals, qualifying for the 2023 Missouri USA Open State Championships.

During the Open State series two member advanced to the finals, Keynu Neiswender fell short in Triple Overtime and walked away with Second place at 10u 85 pounds. Ava Rife defeated Hannibals Luke Smotherman by fall in the third period at 10u 80 pounds making her the only girl to win a Championship in a full 16 man bracket at Open State, she would go on to win the girls state championship as well that day the only to ever do both.

Other state placers for 2023/24 were Micheal Hines, 12U 105 pounds, 3rd place. Westin Jones, 12U 210 pounds, 3rd place. Aidyn Bryant, 10U 65 pounds, 5th place and Henley Snow, 14U 165 pounds, 5th place.

Missouri also offers a girls state competition in which PYWC had 14 members in attendance. Five of those girls claimed their spot at the top of the podium and took home first place; Morgan Pillars, Zoe Corum, Brynlea Lahr, Ava Rife and Kinsley Rife.

PYWC coaches, board of directors and parents are as always beyond proud of our athletes and their hard work and dedication to the sport of wrestling. The 22/23 season was a great one and we are ready to make it even better in 23/24!

THE LEGEND CONTINUES

PYWC offers youth wrestling for children ages 5-14 after which local wrestlers have the opportunity to wrestle for Palmyra High School. Since the programs conception in 2016, PHS has won 5 state championships and brought home 9 state 2nd thru 5th place medals. We are honored to have so many former PYWC members qualify and represent PHS at the state championships over the last 7 seasons!

In 2018 Ross Arch became the first PHS wrestler to win a state medal, in the programs second season. Then in 2019 he was the first to win a State Championship.

In 2023 Elly Lorenson became the first PHS female to medal in the state Tournament, she advanced to the finals and placed Second.

Also in 2023 Collin Arch won his 4th State Championship making him one of 37 in the state to do so. Collin wrapped his HS career 160-1 before moving on to wrestle at the collegiate level at Northern Illinois University. Not only a week after his HS season ended Colin was back on the mats coaching our youth through the end of their season. Our program owes so much to the Arch family, they laid the ground work for PYWC and the High School organization we hope to honor them by raising the next generation to bring many more championships to PHS.
